Embracing the Authoring Era with ‘astroscales’ : Myth-Making and Sonic Storytelling evolve

Updated: May 4

‘astroscales’: A Bold Shift from Myth to Direct Expression

After two years of myth-making, world-building, and sonic storytelling, ‘astroscales’ steps beyond the veil of characters and into something far more direct, far more deliberate —

The Authoring Era.

There comes a moment when the story stops being something you tell…and becomes something you live.

This is that moment.

A full moon against a starry cosmic background with text: "The Authoring Era, Choice + Embodiment, I Decide Who I Become."
Embrace the infinite possibilities of self-discovery with "The Authoring Era," where choice and embodiment shape who we become under the cosmic glow of the universe.

This is not a rejection of what came before. It is the evolution of it.

The Myth Era gave us gods, mirrors, duality, and collapse. It allowed the voice to fragment into ASTRO, AURA, SOLAN — expressions of self that could stretch, distort, and reveal truth through fiction.

But fiction has a limit.

At some point, the creator must step forward and say: This is mine.

ON BORROWED TIME — THE CROSSOVER

The release of ON BORROWED TIME (MATTHEW STEEL VERSION) marks the official crossing point.

Where the Mythmaker Set explored seven variations through character, tone, and perspective…this version does something radically different:

It removes the mask.

No mythic filter. No surrogate voice.

Just the artist — present, intentional, authored.

The production reflects this shift. Cleaner. More grounded. Purposeful restraint. Every beat, every breath, every lyric sits with intention rather than spectacle.

This is not about proving scale. It’s about claiming space.

“On Borrowed Time” is no longer just a concept. It becomes a statement of agency — a recognition that time, voice, and identity are no longer things to experiment with…

…but things to own.

ENTER: CUSTOM MADE

And just as one chapter resolves, another begins.

Introducing CUSTOM MADE: A Study in Self-Creation— a new body of work, a new sonic architecture, and a new way of structuring story through sound.

If The Authoring Era is the philosophy, CUSTOM MADE is the application.

This project shifts the lens again:

  • From myth → to maker

  • From character → to creator

  • From expression → to construction

The soundscape evolves accordingly.

Expect:

  • Precision over chaos

  • Structure with intention

  • Layered storytelling embedded within the production itself

  • A voice that is no longer performing identity — but designing it

A faceless figure in a neon-lit city stands by a vintage car. Text: "Matthew Steel, CUSTOM MADE, I Don't Follow, I Finish. A Study in Self-Creation."
Futuristic album cover for "Custom Made" by Matthew Steel, featuring a lone figure in a sleek suit standing confidently in a neon-lit urban setting with a muscle car, embodying themes of self-creation and individuality.

Where previous works built worlds to explore, CUSTOM MADE builds frameworks to exist within.

Every track becomes a component. Every section a layer of meaning. Every transition a deliberate move in a larger design.

This is music as architecture. Emotion as engineering. Story as system.

WHY THIS SHIFT MATTERS

Because authorship changes everything.

When you author your voice:

  • You stop asking for permission

  • You stop hiding behind metaphor

  • You stop waiting for the “right version” of yourself to emerge

You decide.

The Authoring Era isn’t just a creative pivot —it’s a personal one.

And with it comes a new relationship between artist and audience.

No longer “Watch this world I created.”

But instead “Stand with me in what I’m creating now.”
